What is Save the Date?

A save the date is an advance notice sent before formal invitations, asking guests to reserve a specific date for an upcoming event.

A save the date is a pre-invitation announcement that alerts guests to an upcoming event and asks them to reserve the date on their calendars. These are typically sent 6-12 months before the event for weddings, or 4-8 weeks before for other occasions. Save the dates are especially important for destination events or celebrations during busy seasons when guests may need to arrange travel or time off work. Unlike formal invitations, save the dates don't usually include detailed event information or require an immediate RSVP.
